# Backup & Disaster Recovery

> Immutable, tested backups with agreed recovery objectives.

DVSN AI designs and operates backup and recovery for the systems an organization cannot afford to lose: workstations, servers, cloud workloads and the data held in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Recovery point and recovery time objectives are defined per system, restores are tested on a schedule, and the results are reported.

## Service scope

- **Endpoint and server backup.** Image and file-level backup for workstations and physical or virtual servers with local and off-site copies.
- **SaaS backup.** Independent backup of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace mail, files, calendars and collaboration data beyond the platform's native retention.
- **Cloud workload backup.** Snapshot and cross-region or cross-account backup for AWS, Azure and Google Cloud workloads.
- **Immutable and off-site copies.** Copies that cannot be altered or deleted for a defined retention period, held separately from production credentials.
- **Recovery objectives and restore testing.** Recovery point and recovery time objectives documented per system, with file, system and full-site restores tested on a defined schedule and reported.
- **Continuity planning.** Written continuity plans covering communications, alternate ways of working and the order in which systems are brought back.

## How the service runs

### 1. Objectives agreed per system

Each system carries a recovery point and recovery time objective agreed in discovery, and the backup design follows from them.

- Systems classified by business impact with leadership
- Recovery point and recovery time documented per system
- Backup schedule, retention and storage tier designed to the objectives
- Objectives reviewed when systems or the business change

### 2. Isolated from the attacker

Backups are held where compromised production credentials cannot reach them, with immutability enforced for the retention period.

- Separate credentials and accounts for backup infrastructure
- Immutable and off-site copies with enforced retention
- Alerting on deletion attempts and configuration changes
- Periodic verification that copies are complete and restorable

### 3. Rehearsed recovery

Restores are tested on a schedule and the continuity plan is exercised, so recovery is a procedure rather than an improvisation.

- Monthly file-level and quarterly full-system restore tests with results reported
- Recovery order documented in the continuity plan

## What sets DVSN AI apart

- **Tested, not assumed.** Restore tests run on a schedule and the results are reported, so recovery objectives are demonstrated rather than promised.
- **Isolated by design.** Immutable, off-site copies held under separate credentials are the baseline, so a compromised account cannot reach them.
- **Covers SaaS as well as servers.** Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace data are backed up independently of the platform's native retention.

## Outcomes

- Every critical system has a documented, tested recovery objective
- Backups isolated from the credentials an attacker would compromise
- Restore tests performed and reported on a schedule
- A rehearsed continuity plan with a documented recovery order

## Frequently asked questions

### Are Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace not already backed up?

The platforms provide availability and limited retention, not point-in-time recovery from deletion or account compromise. Independent backup provides that.

### How often are restores tested?

File-level restores are tested monthly and full system restores at least quarterly, with the schedule adjusted to the recovery objectives agreed for each system.

### What are typical recovery objectives?

They vary by system. A line-of-business server may carry a recovery point of one hour and a recovery time of four hours; archival file shares may carry a daily recovery point. Objectives are agreed per system during discovery.

### Is backup included in managed IT?

Endpoint, server and SaaS backup are included in a managed services agreement. Backup & Disaster Recovery as a standalone service adds design, immutable storage, restore testing and continuity planning for organizations that manage IT internally.
